Asus packs a lot of power into a small package with the RS500-E6/PS4 server barebone system. It's based on the new Intel 5500 chipset and accepts up to 2 Intel Xeon 5500 series processors with 2 or 4 cores each. To support all the processing power you can install up to 96GB ECC registered or 96GB unbuffered DDR3 1066/1333MHz memory. This system has been certified to support VMWare virtualization applications, helping small to medium sized businesses reduce TOC and simplify central management. An onboard vertical USB connector lets you connect a USB flash drive and load the VMWare hypervisor off flash memory for faster deployment of new servers. Two PCIe x16 slots will allow for flexible expansion later on, and another slot for optional PIKE cards brings seamless upgrade to SAS storage. The motherboard has 6 SATA II ports and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 for better data protection. Four hot-swap bays let you change out drives as needed. All this fits into a slim 1U chassis.
